In the Santa Clarita Valley, College of the Canyons has partnered with the Al Mann Foundation to develop a 4700 square foot center housing a clean room and lecture area. The Biotech Center will open in October 2005. The Center, located in the heart of the Mann Biomedical Park, will offer programs in clean room processes and procedures, engineering applications, chemistry modules, and customized programs based on industry standards.
In Ventura County, Ventura College has added two bioreactors to its biotechnology laboratory. Students are receiving training by employed industry instructors in methods of cell culture. There is a need for employees who understand the basics of biotechnology and how the biotechnology industry works with the Food and Drug Administration to produce approved products.
California’s biotechnology manufacturing facilities for producing biopharmaceuticals and implantable medical devices are running at full capacity. The partnership between College of the Canyons and Ventura College provides both campuses the opportunity to train employees for the most promising technical entry level jobs, and to prepare new entrants to this dynamically growing industry.
