Advanced Technology Special Initiatives
Ensuring success for our industry
The CACT @ College of the Canyons proactively seeks grants and funding that support the advanced technology sector through special initiatives. Our vision is to build a skilled, talented workforce both now and in the future.
FastTrack Manufacturing Boot Camp
Working with local WorkSource Centers, the CACT trains at-risk youth in the basic skills needed to gain entry-level employment in various manufacturing fields. The CACT’s CNC Operator Bootcamp training program won the “Exemplary Innovation Award” at the 2008 EWD Annual Conference after placing over 90% of its graduates into new careers over the previous four years.
Advanced CAD/CAM Instruction
The CACT is instrumental in acquiring, and keeping current, the hardware and software to enable the teaching of CATIA R5v19, Unigraphics NX, SolidWorks 2009 and MasterCAM X3 and X4 both for credit and through the Employee Training Institute as contract education.
Affiliation with NCATC
The CACT is a member of the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers and has access to solutions and expertise from 150 member institutions across the United States and Canada.
Student Outreach
The Tech-Explorer Catapult Project, an expansion of a project created by the CACT @ Sierra College, is a roaming machine shop project which introduces kids in junior high and high school to manufacturing processes through the construction of a small catapult. Through the project children learn to use a mill, lathe, drill press, brake press and an assortment of hand tools and equipment in a single school day.
Technology Evangelism
Through past grants the CACT has accumulated a large collection of digital manufacturing services on site which are available for demonstration. These technologies include CAD/CAM and 3-D modeling as featured above as well as rapid prototyping and reverse engineering equipment which enables small manufacturing and engineering/product development firms to test the waters of these technologies without purchase commitment. Contact the CACT for more information on the equipment or to schedule a demonstration.
